KS Assembly: Law on Medically Assisted Reproduction on Hold

At today's session of the KS Assembly, Our Party representative Sabina Ćudić stated that due to the KS Assembly Collegium not accepting the proposal for the Law on Medically Assisted Reproduction, it will not be discussed today, writes the BH News Agency Patria.

Representatives of Our Party submitted a request at today's session to include two legislative proposals from Our Party on the agenda of the next session, which the majority in the Collegium, without arguments, refused to include on the agenda of today's session.

These are the Proposal for a Law on the Reporting, Determination of Origin, and Control of Property of Elected and Appointed Officials, Holders of Executive Functions, and Advisors in Sarajevo Canton, and the Draft Law on Medically Assisted Reproduction.

This law is needed because of numerous couples who cannot conceive naturally, and according to the KS Minister of Health, Zilha Ademaj, about 500 couples in KS need medical assistance to have children.

Today, the President of the Centar Municipality Council, Nedžad Ajnadžić, also visited the Institute for the Health Protection of Women and Motherhood, where he discussed the in vitro fertilization project with the director of this institution, prim. dr. Mithat Kurtović, in order to help young married couples from Centar on their path to having children, as the Municipality of Centar wants to allocate certain financial resources for this purpose in its budget next year.

The Municipality of Centar wants to launch an in vitro fertilization project for young married couples from its area, and for this, a serious partner like the Institute for the Health Protection of Women and Motherhood is needed.

However, without a legal solution that would make two attempts free for couples, it is difficult to talk about increasing the birth rate. The first procedure requires an expenditure of up to 8,000 KM, which represents a huge burden for young couples.
