(Patria) - The Assembly of Sarajevo Canton (KS) today ended the decades-long agony of cultural institutions in BiH.
At the initiative of the KS Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Law on Temporary Co-financing of Cultural and Educational Institutions Founded by Bosnia and Herzegovina was adopted.
During the presentation of the Bill, the relevant minister Kenan Magoda emphasized the urgency and necessity of its adoption in order to save institutions that have been left to fend for themselves for decades.
Thirty years of uncertainty and lack of a clear financing system have led to the current situation where institutions are on the verge of collapse, and their employees have been without salaries and basic social rights for three months.
The financing of these institutions was limited to fragmented funds obtained through project applications, which had to be allocated for salaries, building maintenance, and other costs, often leaving minimal or no resources for maintenance and development.
- It is important to emphasize that this law does not interfere with the state's competencies, but focuses exclusively on co-financing the salaries of employees and ensuring the prosperity and continuous operation of cultural institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
With this step, we are opening a new chapter in caring for cultural workers and their livelihoods, while also ensuring that the cultural and artistic heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains protected and accessible to all citizens.
The decision made today represents a joint step towards a better future for our culture and education - said Magoda, who thanked all deputies for their constructive comments and unanimous support for the law.
Before this law, the KS Assembly also adopted the Proposal of the Decision on Accession to the Development of the KS Spatial Plan for the next 20 years.
