KS Assembly last session held on July 9: Drought, rationing, problems in VIK, social institutions can wait until October

(Patria) - The last session of the KS Assembly was held on July 9, which was the first continuation of the 16th working session. At that continuation, the Law on Upbringing and Education in Primary and Secondary Schools in the Sarajevo Canton was adopted. After a lengthy debate, the law was supported by 19 deputies, and seven voted against.

These days, the public's attention is focused on the Rulebook that will record unacceptable forms of behavior and/or other factors that may threaten the best interests of students and student protection. However, although it was published in the Official Gazette of KS, this rulebook will probably not come into effect. The Personal Data Protection Agency of BiH is already conducting proceedings, and a criminal complaint has been filed against the Minister of Education Naida Hota-Muminović.

The Parents' Council of KS pointed out that they were not aware of the Rulebook nor were they consulted during its drafting.

But, let's return to the KS Assembly session.

Although Sarajevo Canton is facing unprecedented drought, due to which night-time rationing has been introduced to ensure daily water supply, there is no KS Assembly session or thematic session to protect water sources, to hear the voice of experts who have been appealing to the cantonal authorities for years to protect drinking water, because with continued construction, especially on the Bjelašnica and Igman mountains, there will be a shortage and pollution of water. In recent months, the director of VIK, Rusmir Salić, has not been seen in public, and it is known that this company is in financial trouble. This year, severance pay has not been paid to employees either, and Salić does not respond to journalists' calls. Some assembly deputies, who are members of the People and Justice party, have expressed dissatisfaction with Salić's work.

Given that the official election campaign for the Local Elections in October begins next week, and that some deputies are on the lists for Municipal Councils, it is difficult to expect sessions before the first half of October.

In addition to water shortages, Sarajevo is also facing excessive air pollution even in the summer months, as well as problems with maintaining communal cleanliness. However, the KS Assembly does not want to discuss these topics yet.

Numerous business reports for 2023 from institutions in the field of social protection, as well as approvals for the Work Programs and Financial Plans for 2024 of social institutions, are on the agenda of the unfinished 16th working session.

Also on the agenda are the remaining business reports for 2023 from institutions in the field of culture.

However, everything will wait until October. As will the announced reconstruction of the KS Government.
