KS Assembly: Private Secondary Medical Center for Health Professions to be Established

(Patria) - The KS Assembly has given consent for the establishment of the Secondary Medical Center "European Medical College" in Sarajevo.

As stated by the Minister of Education and Training of KS, Naida Hota-Muminović, the higher education institution Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) has submitted a request to this ministry for the establishment of this center, along with an attached Feasibility Study for establishment, draft bylaws, and seven curricula for health professions.

After the KS Government made a Decision on the socio-economic justification for the establishment of this center, the relevant ministry appointed an expert commission to review this request and the feasibility study.

Their expert opinion, which confirms that the presented curricula in the new Center are aligned with the Law on Secondary Education of KS, has been submitted and adopted.

The aforementioned seven curricula have been developed in accordance with the most modern methodology and are designed according to learning outcomes, with an emphasis on the need to acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies through the educational process.

- These curricula are based on the concept of duality, whereby students will have the opportunity to acquire skills through practical learning. Both globally and in our country, there is a need for this type of personnel.

Therefore, there is also interest in KS for education in the health profession, driven by the significant needs for the development of family medicine, primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare.

Furthermore, such newly educated personnel will also contribute to the development of medical tourism, which is one of the determinants of our future economic development.

By establishing new clinics and polyclinics in our canton, health services will be available to domestic and foreign clients, which is a concept that has long been cultivated in the world - stated Minister Hota-Muminović.

Consent was also given for the establishment of the Research Institute "Blum" for Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Autonomous Robotic Systems.

The Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Youth of Sarajevo Canton was responsible for drafting the materials regarding the establishment, emphasizing that the establishment of the institute represents a significant contribution to the scientific research development of Sarajevo Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it opens up topics that are important for the technological development sector, which is at the forefront of scientific development in Europe and the world.

Today, amendments to the Law on Employment Mediation and Social Security of Unemployed Persons in Sarajevo Canton were adopted, stating, among other things, that when engaging individuals in public works as part of the measures program, it should be stipulated that after completing their traineeship, these individuals will be offered fixed-term employment contracts, so that they can continue to exercise their right to healthcare.

The amendments to the Law, which due to their scope went through the assembly procedure under an expedited process, have caused numerous discussions and opened significant topics in terms of improving and making employment mediation by the competent Service more efficient, separating unemployment records into those who are active job seekers and those, which are significantly more numerous, who have remained on the records of the KS Employment Service for years due to various benefits.
