Gathering in the City Hall: The name Bosniak was restored 24 years ago

An academy on the occasion of Bosniak Day will be organized in the Sarajevo City Hall tonight, organized by the Council of Bosniak Intellectuals (VKBI), the Bosniak Cultural Community "Preporod" and the Muslim Charity Society "Merhamet", reports NAP.

Twenty-four years ago, on September 28, 1993, on the second day of the First Bosniak Congress session, the Declaration on the Restoration of the Historical Name to Bosniaks was adopted, and in 1994, a law was passed in which the name Muslim was replaced by the name Bosniak.

The president of Preporod, Senadin Lavić, stated that the academy is not a result of any cooperation with any political structures, but exclusively a project of the aforementioned umbrella Bosniak institutions.

"This is a day for all Bosniaks in BiH and around the world. If there is any skeptic, Bosniaks, by celebrating their day and respecting their name, are not separating themselves from BiH, they do not want to be ghettoized somewhere in BiH, but rather, as in 1993 in difficult wartime conditions, they are today very determined to preserve and develop the state of BiH as a multi-ethnic, European, democratic, and free state," emphasized Lavić.
