Gathering in Sarajevo: Appeal for the Freedom of Palestinian Prisoners and Respect for Human Rights

(Patria) - The Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina organized a solidarity gathering in Sarajevo with Palestinian prisoners, highlighting the difficult situation of over 9,600 individuals in Israeli prisons, including women and children, and issuing an appeal for justice and respect for fundamental human rights.



The organizers emphasized that the gathering is a reaction to proposed legal solutions that, according to them, allow for the imposition of the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners, which they assessed as a serious violation of international humanitarian law and the institutionalization of violence.

Speakers at the gathering included representatives of the Bosnian-Palestinian Friendship Association, the Palestinian Community in BiH, Palestinian journalists, children from the community, and the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to BiH.

Association President Avdo Hebib reminded of the long-standing struggle of the Palestinian people, emphasizing that new victims are recorded daily, and expressed hope for the realization of the right to a free and dignified life in their own state.



Palestinian Ambassador Sylvia Abu Laban stated that Palestinian Prisoners' Day aims to draw attention to systematic rights violations, including detention without trial, denial of legal aid, poor conditions, and restricted access for international organizations.

Speakers particularly warned about the situation of children and prisoners' families, emphasizing that the international community must become more actively involved in protecting fundamental human rights and ensuring the consistent application of international law.
