Škrijelj begins new term as Rector, Vice-Rectors elected

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the second election session of the Senate of the University of Sarajevo held today, 09/30/2020, the Vice-Rectors of the University of Sarajevo for the 2020-2024 term were elected, and the Senate was informed about the appointments of heads/directors of the sub-organizational units of the University of Sarajevo.

In accordance with the Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo Canton, the Statute of the University of Sarajevo, and the Rulebook on the Election of Vice-Rectors of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector of the University of Sarajevo, submitted his proposal for the appointment of new Vice-Rectors to the Senate of the University of Sarajevo at the election session held, and the decision on the election of new Vice-Rectors was made by the Senate of the University of Sarajevo.

At the session held, the Vice-Rectors of the University of Sarajevo for the 2020-2024 term were elected:

- Vice-Rector for Finance: Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Sarajevo (Group of Social Sciences),
- Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs: Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo (Group of Humanities),
- Vice-Rector for Scientific Research/Artistic Research: Prof. Dr. Mirza Dautbašić, Full Professor at the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Sarajevo (Group of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Biotechnology),
- Vice-Rector for Quality: Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo (Group of Technical Sciences),
- Vice-Rector for International Cooperation: Prof. Dr. Enita Nakaš, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry with Clinics of the University of Sarajevo (Group of Medical Sciences),
- Vice-Rector for Art, Culture, and Sports: Prof. Dr. Tamara Karača Beljak, Full Professor at the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo (Group of Arts).

The second term of Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj begins on October 1, 2020, and lasts for four years, i.e., until September 30, 2024. The terms of the Vice-Rectors follow the term of the Rector of the University of Sarajevo. Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector of the University of Sarajevo for the 2020-2024 term, said about the election of the Vice-Rectors of the University of Sarajevo that it is a team that will lead the University of Sarajevo and its sub-organizational units for the next four years through improved development and enhancement of all functions of this higher education institution.

"This team consists of respected, prominent professors, scientific and professional staff from the faculties and academies of the University of Sarajevo. Their competencies and past achievements at their home faculties and academies are a guarantee that the University of Sarajevo, with their appointment, will continue its aspirations in improving the status of the University of Sarajevo. Three key words in the next term are integration, internationalization, and informatization, and the primary task is to continue working on the initiated reform processes," said Škrijelj. 

Based on the decisions of the University Rector, which the Senate was previously informed about, the following will continue to perform the duties of directors of sub-organizational units in the next term:

- Prof. Dr. Elmedin Selmanović, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, remains the Director of the University Tele-Information Center,
- Mr. Sc. Nadina Grebović-Lendo, Head of the Library of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo, remains the Director of the Library of the University of Sarajevo.

At the election session, the Senate was informed about the appointments of heads/directors of the University of Sarajevo centers:

- Prof. Dr. Nedžad Korajlić, Full Professor at the Faculty of Criminal Justice, Criminology and Security Studies of the University of Sarajevo, is appointed Director of the University of Sarajevo Center for Human Rights;
- Prof. Dr. Nihad Fejzić, Full Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Sarajevo, is appointed Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies;
- Prof. Dr. Maja Arslanagić-Kalajdžić, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Sarajevo, is appointed Director of the University of Sarajevo Center for Research and Development.
