Škrijelj: I regret not being given the chance to implement my program

Rector of the University of Sarajevo Rifat Škrijelj addressed the deputies in the KS Assembly, stating that he regrets not being given the chance to complete his term on the platform he presented during his election as rector, reports Patria agency.

- This law is unacceptable for several reasons. Let the creators look at the articles where the same law states that both the Senate and the Management Board can dismiss the rector, Article 133 and Article 154. Completely contradictory positions, what applies to other universities does not apply to UNSA. This indicates an appropriation of autonomy. An attempt is being made to create a new standard. It is also unacceptable due to unresolved financing issues. It is financed based on a grant and is not a budget user. However, a law is being passed that introduces it into the treasury. We have no guarantee of how much we will be financed. Public universities in other countries are financed from the budget, and this is clearly stipulated, along with how much independent funds need to be secured.

Škrijelj asked who will cover the debt of the Faculty of Pharmacy, which is almost 10 million KM. It was incurred between 2002 and 2013.

- By merging into one account, do you think you will put it on the UNSA account?

The rector confirmed that UNSA has dropped by 180 places in the university rankings, but also that they have improved by 420 places in terms of scientific references.

He reiterated that the program he created is no longer sustainable because it was designed according to the current law.
