Ski school could face debacle due to poor preparation by the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Given that in recent days a significant number of parents have contacted the Cantonal Board of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sarajevo, expressing deep dissatisfaction with the organization of the ski school for sixth graders by the cantonal ministry, this party points out that they are obliged to inform the public of several facts related to this school. At the same time, they pose several open questions to the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Elvir Kazazović.

From the SDP, they remind that although the ministry announced in the project's announcement that all children would be provided with complete ski equipment, "at the very beginning of the implementation, it turned out that this is not true and that a large number of children and their parents must secure a significant part of the equipment, including ski boots and helmets."

"The announced 'completely free ski school' expects parents to rent equipment, buy food, drinks... Also, a major problem is the fact that on average one teacher/instructor is responsible for 25 to 30 children, which in itself is impossible to carry out organizationally, because the level of skiing proficiency among children varies," stated the SDP. From that party, they further ask:

- Will children make up for the classes missed due to the ski school and in what way?

- How was the possibility announced that parents could rent the necessary equipment a day in advance themselves; who and in what way provides the space where the equipment is stored?

- How can one teacher service an entire class (dressing and fastening ski boots, adjusting bindings) given that children spend only a few hours a day at the ski resort?

- Given that the use of toilets on Igman and Bjelašnica is paid, has the Ministry also foreseen paying for that, as well as transport and ski passes?

- What is the purpose of the 113-page brochure that the ministry printed in a circulation of 5,000 copies, whose author is Minister Kazazović, which will be distributed to children and from which they will have to learn 'material' and poems for a grade in physical education?

- In that brochure, it says that children will have to have a candle as part of the mandatory equipment. Does that mean that children will have to wax their skis themselves?

From the Cantonal Board of the SDP, they emphasize "that there is justified suspicion that a good idea, due to poor preparation and organization, could face a debacle."

"We publicly call on the minister to immediately remove the mentioned shortcomings or to suspend the school due to poor preparation and organization. If the ski school is implemented in this way, budget money will be wasted, parents will be burdened with new unplanned costs, and children will not learn to ski," the SDP stated.
