Skaka in Washington: Sarajevo recognizes the immeasurable role of the US in the defense of BiH

WASHINGTON, (Patria) - Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka said in Washington during an event organized by the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina (ACBiH) that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo recognize and appreciate the immeasurable role of the United States of America in the defense and building of the state.

“We jointly promote a united, multi-ethnic, and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo, with its churches, mosques, and synagogues, is the heart of a multi-ethnic, multicultural, and multi-religious country. Therefore, it was an honor for me to attend and support the event organized by ACBiH at Whittemore House in Washington,” Skaka stated.

Recognition for all they have done for Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially on its path towards a stable state aspiring to EU and NATO membership, was awarded by this respected organization to Senator John McCain (posthumously), Ambassadors Swanee Hunt and Maureen Cormack, Major General Linda L. Singh, Captain Maida Kalic Zheng, and Dr. Mahira Tanović.

Officials from the State Department, namely Matthew Palmer, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs responsible for the Western Balkans and the Aegean Sea, also attended the ceremony, further strengthening friendly and partnership relations.

“The US has approved a project that will enable us to clear Sarajevo of mines by September 2020. This is a project of vital importance. I especially want to congratulate the president of ACBiH, Ajla Delkić, on her persistent and unwavering work in the interest of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens,” concluded the Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka.
