High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council Session: New Vice-President to be Elected Following Biljana Simeunović's Resignation

(Patria) - The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPCBiH) will hold a session today and tomorrow, during which, among other things, an Information on high-level corruption and organized crime cases, specifically a snapshot as of June 30, 2023, is expected to be discussed.

On the agenda is also an item concerning the election of a vice-president of that regulatory body, following the resignation of Vice-President Biljana Simeunović at the previous session. In her resignation, she stated that the Secretary-General Admir Suljagić prevented her from doing her job, with the tacit approval of the HJPC President Halil Lagumdžija.

As planned, the session will also discuss information on the dynamics of trials in complex organized crime cases that have entered the two-year resolution plans for the first and second quarters of 2023, as well as an item related to the implementation of case resolution plans for the first half of 2023.

Furthermore, HJPC members are expected to provide their opinion on the Semi-Annual Report of the Disciplinary Prosecutor's Office (UDT), and the Semi-Annual Report on the Work of Courts and Prosecutor's Offices for 2023.

Also on the agenda is a Request for HJPCBiH support in investigating criminal convictions in gender-based violence cases at the University of Sarajevo.

The HJPCBiH will also provide its opinion on the proposal of the Permanent Commission for the Implementation of Testing Procedures, Structured Interviews, and Improvement of the Appointment Process, for the implementation of conclusions from the Round Table held in June this year.

According to established practice, on the second day of the session, judicial officeholders in BiH will be appointed, and a certain number of decisions regarding the extension and termination of mandates in the judiciary will be made.
