Remembering murdered police officers Vujinović and Šehović: They served this city and its citizens with honor

(Patria) - The sixth anniversary of the deaths of police officers Adis Šehović and Davor Vujinović of the Novi Grad Police Administration was marked in Sarajevo today. Family members, friends, colleagues, and numerous delegations laid flowers at the memorial plaque and paid tribute to police officers Šehović and Vujinović at the scene of their murder in the Alipašino Polje settlement, on Geteova Street.

„It was a heavy blow to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton and the Police Administration, but at the same time a warning to all of us that the fight against violence must never falter. Davor and Adis, with their dedication and bravery, selflessly demonstrated their commitment to the job they performed and served this city and its citizens with honor,“ said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica.

In memory of Adis and Davor, honor guards of police officers from the Police Support Sector were lined up today.

„Adis and Davor were honorable police officers. They loved their Novi Grad police station. They worked bravely and with their heads held high. They were good and honorable men, fathers, sons, good neighbors, and beloved colleagues. Their deaths changed all of us. We have no right to ever forget their sacrifice. They were building a better society and laid down their lives in that mission. Society must not forget them. We will not. Adis and Davor were and remain our brothers,“ said Police Commissioner Fatmir Hajdarević.

„Justice for the murder of a police officer must not be too slow or unattainable. Thanks to the persistent work of police officers and prosecutors, the perpetrators of the brutal murder of Adis and Davor are where they belong – behind bars. Sentences for such crimes must be strict and send clear messages to all who even consider settling scores with the police and the state in this manner. The memory of Adis and Davor, true heroes of today, will forever be etched in our hearts,“ said Saim Smajlović, president of the Supervisory Board of the Sarajevo Canton Police Union.

Flowers were laid and tribute was paid at their burial sites, at the Buća Potok Martyrs' Cemetery and at the "Sveti Josip" cemetery.

In memory of their murdered colleagues, the Memorial Tournament in small football "Adis & Davor" was held again this year, organized by the Sarajevo Canton Police Union, which brought together teams from numerous police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The memorial tournament was opened with a minute of silence in honor of the murdered police officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Una-Sana Canton, Ozren Maran.

Police officers, 43-year-old Adis Šehović and 46-year-old Davor Vujinović, were murdered in the line of duty in the Alipašino Polje settlement on October 26, 2018.
