Remembering the Defence of Hill Žuč and the Death of Bosnian Ghazi Enver Šehović

A memorial futsal tournament on the auxiliary pitch of Grbavica Stadium today marked the beginning of the commemoration of the 22nd anniversary of the decisive defence of Hill Žuč and the sad 22nd anniversary of the death of the legendary commander of the First Motorised Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Enver Šehović, and his comrades.

The tournament, named “22nd Memorial Enver Šehović 1993-2015”, was opened by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Muharem Fišo, reports the Patria news agency.

-Today we begin marking the anniversary of the defence of Hill Žuč, which lasted from 3 to 31 July 1993. The largest and fiercest battle took place on 27 July, when the late commander Enver Šehović, Zahid Panjeta and their comrades were killed. As many as 89 of our comrades died in that month, said Nusret Aganović, president of the Association of the First Glorious – 111th Knight Brigade.

In honour of the heroes of the defence of Žuč, this association organises a memorial tournament every year. Minister Muharem Fišo emphasised the importance of marking this anniversary, so that the character and deeds of the late Enver Šehović and his comrades are not forgotten.

-I ask those of you who organised this memorial to continue this tradition, because we must never forget our heroes, our First Glorious. What they started and defended with rifles, you continue with pens and balls in peace, remembering them, because our future and the preservation of history depend on it, Minister Fišo said on this occasion.

Eight teams are participating in the tournament, including members of the Association of the First Glorious 111th Knight Brigade, the Hrasno Detachment, „Pofalićki“, and employees of the Special Police „Bosna“ and the Novo Sarajevo Police Department, the Ministry announced.
