Edhem Mulabdić was one of the most distinguished Bosnian-Herzegovinian writers. He was born in Maglaj in 1862. He finished mekteb there, as well as the lower Islamic secondary school. After that, he got a job as a clerk, writes Patria.
Mulabdić later studied at the Teacher's College in Sarajevo. He worked as a teacher in Brčko and Sarajevo, worked at the Muslim Teacher Training School, and later as a teacher at the Sharia Court School.
Mulabdić was also a people's representative in Maglaj.
Together with Safvet-beg Bašagić and Osman Nuri Hadžić, he launched the newspaper "Behar" on May 1, 1900 (he was the editor of the newspaper from 1901-06), and in 1903 he also founded the society "Gajret".
In his long life, he was primarily a teacher, and then a successful writer. The novel "Zeleno busenje" is considered the most significant work of this author, but also the first Bosniak novel.
Mulabdić was also the first Bosniak novelist. He died in Sarajevo on January 29, 1954.
Today, Mulabdić is a required reading author, and his significance for the development of Bosniak culture and education is slowly being recognized. A large number of streets and schools in BiH today bear Mulabdić's name, writes Patria.
