Great atmosphere and excellent results: Velež Cup exceeded all expectations

(Patria) - This Saturday, the fourth Velež Cup was held. Swimmers from three Mostar clubs participated in the "IV Velež Cup". Our dear friends from the Academic Club "Zrinjski" and the Water Sports Club "Orka", together with the swimmers from our Club, created a great atmosphere, and a considerable number of excellent races with very good results were swum.

Although this year, compared to previous years, the Velež Cup was organized in a somewhat more modest form, there was no shortage of love and enthusiasm. Limited by epidemiological regulations, we were forced to reduce the number of participants, even though the name "Velež Cup" has become known and attractive to clubs throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, and even to foreign ones.

We had the special honor of hosting the wonderful and very brave swimmer from APK Zrinjski and our Lucija Puljić, who made a strong comeback after a somewhat longer break from competitive swimming.

The swimming club "Velež" was represented by 32 swimmers. A total of 53 medals were won, including 28 gold, 18 silver, and seven bronze. The medals awarded at the "IV Velež Cup" were the work of our dear friends from the Center for Children and Youth with Special Needs "Los Rosales", who impressed us with their design and quality.

Four gold medals were won by Sarrah Nuspahić (2004). Sarrah was the best in the 50 meters freestyle, 50 meters breaststroke, and 50 and 100 meters backstroke.

Adel Grebović (2005) won four gold medals. He was the best in the 50 and 100 meters freestyle and 50 and 100 meters backstroke disciplines. Danis Alikalfić (2006) also won four gold medals. He was the fastest in the 100 meters freestyle, 100 meters breaststroke, and 50 and 100 meters backstroke disciplines. Bakir Bajgorić (2004) achieved three first places and one second place. Bakir won gold medals in the 50 meters backstroke and 50 and 100 meters breaststroke, while he won a silver medal in the 100 meters freestyle discipline.

Adnan Žmiro (2006) was the best three times, winning gold medals in the 50 meters freestyle, 50 meters breaststroke, and 50 meters butterfly disciplines.

After a longer break, Ena Maksumić (2006) returned to competitive swimming, and in what style. In the three disciplines she swam, she won three gold medals – in the 50 meters breaststroke, 50 meters freestyle, and 50 meters backstroke disciplines.

Tarik Kreso (2003) won two gold medals in the 50 and 100 meters backstroke disciplines. Lana Janković (2006) won one gold and two silver medals, being the best in the 100 meters backstroke, while she won silver medals in the 50 meters backstroke and 50 meters breaststroke disciplines.

Mia Ćorić (2004) won one gold and three silver medals. She was the fastest in the 50 meters butterfly, and achieved three second places in the 50 meters freestyle and 50 and 100 meters backstroke disciplines. Džana Bajgorić (2007) won a gold medal in the 100 meters backstroke, while she was second in the 50 and 100 meters freestyle and 50 meters backstroke, winning three silver medals.

Identical results were achieved by Džana Žmiro (2008), but in a younger category. Džana was first in the 50 meters breaststroke discipline, and second in the 50 meters freestyle, 100 meters breaststroke, and 50 meters butterfly. Timam Ramić (2006) won one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. He was the best in the 100 meters butterfly discipline, second in the 50 meters butterfly, and won a bronze medal in the 50 meters breaststroke discipline.

Danin Bećirović (2006) won two silver medals. He was second in the 50 and 100 meters backstroke disciplines. Vedran Kisić (2003) won one silver and two bronze medals. Vedran was second in the 100 meters backstroke and third in the 50 meters breaststroke and 50 meters backstroke.

Nedim Žujo (2006) won a silver medal in the 200 meters individual medley discipline and a bronze medal in the 50 meters butterfly. Danja Alikalfić (2011) won one silver and one bronze medal. She was second in the 25 meters butterfly and third in the 25 meters breaststroke. Omar Dušić (2006) won two bronze medals in the 50 meters backstroke and 100 meters breaststroke disciplines.

In addition to the mentioned swimmers, our Club was also represented by Ali Salčin, Nejla Kreso, Lejna Kreso, Benjamin Halilović, Dani Ridvan Bošnjak, Lana Zlomușica, Kerim Hadžimusić, Esad Buzaljko, Abdullah Marić, and Fatih Agović, Sergej Đurić, Harun Salčin, Ajnur Talić, Lazar Vuković, and Ajna Talić, for whom this was the first competition in their swimming careers.

Although one of the most important events of the year for us has passed, there is no time for rest. Next week, we will continue with other activities and training to be as prepared and fast as possible for the upcoming challenges and competitions.
