Sivro demands from authorities: Remove all stray dogs within 500 meters of kindergartens and schools

The president of the Union of Primary Education and Upbringing of Sarajevo Canton, Saudin Sivro, today sent a request for the removal of stray dogs from the streets of Sarajevo, in order to protect the health of children, writes the Patria News Agency.

-As part of the activities we are carrying out with the aim of protecting the health of our members, students, and their parents, we are addressing you with a request to remove all stray dogs within a 500-meter radius of schools and kindergartens, regardless of whether the dogs are aggressive or not.

We remind you that on September 18, 2014, together with SSVOONK BiH – Cantonal Board of Sarajevo Canton, the Council of Parents of Primary and Secondary Schools of Sarajevo Canton, the Association of Teachers of Sarajevo Canton, the Association of Principals/Directors of Sarajevo Primary Schools, and the Community of Secondary Schools of Sarajevo Canton, we announced the possibility of suspending the educational process if the aforementioned problem is not resolved.

More than 13 months have passed since then, and the problem has still not been resolved. In some areas, the safety and health situation has slightly improved, while in others, the situation is more alarming. The last reported incident, or rather attack by stray dogs, occurred in Kovači on November 2, 2015.

Due to the above, we believe that everyone should act within their competencies to resolve this problem as soon as possible and to immediately actively engage in solving the problem of stray dogs using all available material, intellectual, and human resources of the institutions you represent, with the aim of completely removing stray dogs from the streets of Sarajevo Canton, Sivro's letter states.

The letter was sent to the Cantonal Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Elvir Kazazović, the Minister of Communal Economy and Infrastructure Senad Hasanspahić, the Mayor of Novi Grad Municipality Semir Efendić, the Director of KJKP „Rad“ Selim Babić, and the Director of LOKOM Ramiz Duraković.
