Flood situation improving, landslide activated in Visoko

(Patria) - After several days of heavy rainfall and floods that hit parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the situation is gradually stabilizing, and river levels are dropping.

According to the latest measurements, the water level of the Sana River in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina this morning was 316 cm, a significant drop compared to yesterday's 365 cm. The water is also receding in the Sana's tributaries, while some settlements still have minor problems with groundwater, which is also receding.

During the evening, members of the diving club "Vir" successfully evacuated a sick person from Jelašinovci, a hamlet of Dobrijevići in Sanski Most. After the evacuation, the patient was transported to Prijedor for further medical treatment, as stated on the Facebook page of the Municipality of Sanski Most.

The situation in the areas of Sanski Most and Prijedor is calming down, and competent services continue their activities to repair the flood damage.

Over the past two days, a landslide has been activated in the Visoko settlement of Plaholje, located in the MZ Goduša, threatening at least one residential building in the area.

"Geological analysis has shown that this is a large and active landslide. According to experts, the use of machinery is currently not allowed until the ground dries, as any intervention could worsen the situation. It was also determined that groundwater is flowing from the top of the hill, and that all trees in the area were cut down in the previous period, which has further destabilized the ground," stated the Civil Protection Service two days ago.

The depth of the landslide is about 7 to 8 meters, and the volume of material that could collapse is extremely large. At this moment, there is no measure that could stop the landslide, nor any protective structure like gabions that could prevent further soil movement.

The resident of the threatened house has agreed to evacuate, as the landslide is serious and active.
