Systemically resolve the landslide problem in KS

(Patria) - The house of Samir Petrović, located at Vladimira Preloga street 8, in the Buča Potok settlement, is endangered due to a landslide, which has recently expanded.

At the initiative and request of the citizens of Novi Grad Municipality, the Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Elvedin Okerić, the Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Environmental Protection and Construction Enver Hadžiahmetović, the Minister of Economy Adnan Delić, the Director of the Institute for Construction Mirza Hulusić, and the Director of KJKP “Vodovod i kanalizacija” Aida Pendek visited this location today.

The goal was to ascertain whether the water, which has evidently endangered this facility, came from the Buča Potok II reservoir, given that the house is located on a hillside.

Minister Hadžiahmetović stated that the water does not come from the reservoir and that it is a problem of a local nature, which needs to be resolved in a different way.

He stated that all landslides in Sarajevo Canton should be resolved systemically. There are many such problems, and it is very important that we do not solve them partially but integrally.

“It is high time that all institutions responsible for these problems start addressing them and adopt a law on landslides, based on which procedures and guidelines will be defined. It is always important to know the cause of landslides, which is most often groundwater, and all of this should be covered by the new law,” emphasized Minister Hadžiahmetović.

Speaker Okerić emphasized that they came to the field today at the initiative of the citizens of this settlement, who, according to him, demanded urgent action regarding this active landslide, in order to determine what is happening.

“In general, the decentralization of the system in KS in a way allows services to shift responsibility from one to another, and unfortunately, citizens are the ones who bear the consequences,” he said.

He added that the function of the legislative authority is to harmonize legal regulations, all with the aim of solving the problems of the citizens of Sarajevo Canton.

He announced that a meeting will be held tomorrow with representatives of the Novi Grad Municipality, the Institute for Construction, the Institute for Planning, as well as the relevant ministries responsible for these issues. The Government's commitment is to adopt a systemic law that will simplify the ways of treating the landslide issue in the Canton, which currently has about 850 registered landslides.

Director Hulusić stated that the KS Institute for Construction, as a professional institution, has provided some recommendations, and that this problem should be remediated as soon as possible. “Although this landslide looks 'small', it can cause even bigger problems,” he emphasized.
