Polling stations open across the country, Bosnians and Herzegovinians elect local authorities today

(Patria) - Polling stations for the Local Elections opened across Bosnia and Herzegovina this morning at 7 a.m. Citizens have the right to vote for their local representatives until 7 p.m. this evening, when polling stations will be closed.

The exception is five municipalities where elections are postponed due to floods, landslides and mudslides: Jablanica, Konjic, Kiseljak, Kreševo and Fojnica.



The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina will decide on the date for holding the postponed elections in these four local communities when conditions for their holding are met.

According to CEC data, a total of 296 political entities have been certified to participate in the elections, of which 110 are political parties, which will compete for the votes of 3.4 million voters.



A total of 142 mayors, i.e. municipal heads, are being elected in these elections, and the same number of municipal/city assemblies will be elected.

Citizens also elect a new convocation of the Assembly of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a special administrative unit, which subsequently elects the mayor.



More than 25,700 candidates are competing for seats in the parliaments of local communities.

A total of just over 3.4 million people, as registered in the Central Voters' Register, will be able to vote in the elections.



Abroad, around 40,000 voters will be able to vote in 14 diplomatic-consular missions in eight countries.

Heads of municipalities and mayors are directly elected in the vast majority of local communities, except in three - Sarajevo, Mostar and the Brčko District.



CEC estimates indicate that the elections will cost around 19 million marks.
