Singapore has the strongest passport in the world, Bosnia and Herzegovina is in 47th place

(Patria) - For the first time in five years, Japan no longer has the most powerful passport in the world.

On the new global ranking, Singapore takes first place, and its citizens can visit 192 countries without a visa.

Germany, Italy and Spain moved up to second place with visa-free access to 190 destinations.

Japan has been pushed to third place - a position it shares with six other nations - Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea and Sweden. Citizens of these countries can visit 189 destinations without a prior visa, writes Daily Mail.

The US, on the other hand, continues its now decade-long slide down the index, dropping another two places to eighth, with access to 184 countries visa-free.

The United Kingdom and the US jointly held the top spot on the index in 2014, but have been on a long downward trajectory ever since.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is ranked 47th on the list with visa-free access to 118 countries.

Among the countries in the region, Slovenia is in 9th place (with visa-free access to 183 countries), Croatia 14th (175), Serbia 34th (137), North Macedonia 43rd (125), Montenegro 44th (124), Albania 48th (117), and Kosovo 94th (42).

Afghanistan remains firmly at the bottom of the list with a visa-free access score of just 27, ahead of Iraq (29) and Syria (30) - these are also the three weakest passports in the world, reports Dnevnik.hr.

The ranking was compiled by the Henley Passport Index, which is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association and analyzes how many countries a passport holder can enter without first obtaining a visa.
