Unions and workers must be united more than ever

Ismet Bajramović, president of the Alliance of Independent Trade Unions of BiH, called on all workers and trade unionists in the country to close ranks and resist attempts to belittle workers, which have been ongoing in BiH for quite some time, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Bajramović said that in the post-election days, everything is being done to divert public attention from issues that are important for workers. He says that there are constant attempts to make workers focus on themselves, for trade unions to focus on each other, and for no one to mention the things that are most important for a person's life anymore – their right to work, salary, health and pension insurance, and social protection.

The attempts by certain political structures in BiH to create personnel policies within trade unions and thereby weaken the edge of the only true representative of workers in Bosnia and Herzegovina are becoming increasingly obvious, Bajramović further states. The goal is to amend the Labor Law and abolish indefinite-term contracts as soon as possible, leaving workers without legal protection.

Therefore, Bajramović calls for workers who are forced to seek their rights on the streets to have more support than ever from trade unions and other workers, reports NAP.
