Trade unions of doctors of medicine and dentistry give the FBiH Government a deadline to resolve healthcare issues, ready for protests

(Patria) - The Federation of Trade Unions of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry of FBiH submitted an initiative to the FBiH Government four months ago to equalize doctors' rights.

"To this day, we have had one meeting with the Prime Minister of the FBiH Government Nikšić and the Federal Minister of Health Nediljko Rimac, at which we informed them about the differences in doctors' rights in certain cantons and the problem of doctors leaving small cantons.

More than 40 days have passed since then, and we still haven't received an answer as to whether the FBiH Government is ready to resolve the healthcare issue or if it will allow certain cantons' citizens to have no one to treat them. Posavina Canton currently has no cardiologists, has one anesthesiologist, Canton 10 has two anesthesiologists, and the situation is no better in other branches of medicine.

The population needs healthcare 24 hours a day, and unfortunately, this number of doctors cannot provide it. In Sarajevo Canton, a doctor earns 50% more than a doctor in Orašje, which is the motivation we give doctors to stay in small communities," they state in their press release.

If they do not receive an answer from the FBiH Government to their initiative by October 17, 2023, the Federation of Trade Unions of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry of FBiH will decide on the date of a warning strike, and it is up to the Government to take a step, stop this, and show that they are a government that cares equally about the population in small cantons as in large cantons.
