UNSA Union: University and founder relations can no longer be at the expense of employees, we will defend our rights

(Patria) - The University of Sarajevo Union has once again spoken out following yesterday's and today's events concerning UNSA-KS Government relations and the delayed salaries for 2,700 employees.

"The UNSA Union expresses deep regret that the University of Sarajevo and the Government of Sarajevo Canton have not found a timely solution to prevent University employees, as the sole beneficiaries of budget funds whose salaries are paid through the treasury, from being deprived of their legally guaranteed right to personal income.

In accordance with its primary obligation to protect workers' rights, the Union, through negotiations with KS Government representatives, has developed a solution that it believes the Government will fully honor. This solution represents the minimum effort required to ensure respect for employees' rights, and that November salaries are in the accounts of UNSA employees no later than Friday, December 13th.

The Union demands that the University of Sarajevo and the Government of Sarajevo Canton consistently respect workers' rights, which, in addition to regular salaries, include all other obligations arising from the Collective Agreement. Non-compliance with these rights not only jeopardizes the employees' existence but also undermines the dignity and stability of the academic community.

To ensure respect for employees' rights, the University of Sarajevo Union is preparing the necessary steps using the instruments at its disposal.

It is our duty to remind that the University of Sarajevo, its management, deans and directors, and especially the Government of Sarajevo Canton as the signatory of the Collective Agreement, have a clear legal and moral obligation to respect and fulfill their commitments.

The University of Sarajevo Union firmly states that in the future it does not expect nor will it tolerate situations where the mutual relations between the University and the founder are at the expense of the fundamental rights of employees. Every worker has the right to timely and secure payment of earned funds, and the Union will continue to act uncompromisingly to protect these rights," the Union stated.
