Union calls on KS Assembly not to adopt the proposed law: You will introduce anarchy into high schools

(Patria) - The Cantonal Board of SSVOONKBiH Sarajevo Canton has called on the deputies of the KS Assembly to stop the adoption of a bad legal solution that is part of the Bill on Education in primary and secondary schools in Sarajevo Canton, which is on the agenda of the KS Assembly on Monday, June 10.

"The proposed solution, which introduces compulsory secondary education for all children and individuals until they acquire vocational qualifications, up to the age of 22, without implementation regulations, will introduce anarchy into secondary schools.

The proposal of such a legal solution was made without presenting clear explanations based on serious analyses of the current legal solution to the public and social partners, nor predictions of what such a solution will bring us in the future.

Representing secondary education workers, we express great concern about where such a solution will lead us, especially in terms of a safe environment in secondary schools as a prerequisite for quality education," the Union believes.

They also listed several possible situations:

- A student who abuses other students or teachers on a daily basis will not be able to be excluded from the regular educational process, nor will they be able to be banned from contact with vulnerable populations in secondary school.

- A student or person convicted of murder or attempted murder, after serving their sentence, would be compulsorily educated with regular secondary school students.

- Proven pedophiles would be compulsorily educated together with regular secondary school students.

- Drug dealers would be compulsorily educated with regular students and would have a guaranteed "workplace".

- Students who have the legal right to marry at the age of 18 will be compulsorily educated with regular secondary school students under this law.

A student with 200, 300, 400 or more unjustified absences from classes will be considered a regular student and will have to continue their regular education.

"We can list such examples indefinitely, and considering the implementation of the current Law on Secondary Education, where education is compulsory up to the age of 18 and we are not aware of any sanctions provided for violating the law, proposing such a legal solution is a real nonsense. In practice, this will mean that students who do not regularly attend school or drop out have no penalty, and those who abuse such a solution can freely harass, in every sense, other students, as well as school staff, primarily teaching staff.

We hope that you will understand the social importance of stopping the adoption of such a legal solution, because if it is not stopped, you will also be responsible for every serious undesirable event in secondary schools in the future," they concluded in their statement.
