Ismet Bajramović, president of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, told the Patria news agency that he supports the introduction of a self-contribution to help the population affected by floods in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whereby budget beneficiaries and employees in public enterprises and all employees in companies and institutions linked to the authorities will set aside a daily allowance for half a year, while other employees in the private sector will contribute 1% of their salary to help the flooded areas in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Namely, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted a package of three laws to help those affected by the floods, and as the Patria news agency (NAP) previously announced, this will very quickly activate financial aid for the flooded areas, primarily from internal reserves exceeding 200 million marks!
The government also adopted and, under an urgent procedure, forwarded to the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina three laws: a law on establishing a fund for aid, a law on financing aid, and a law enabling the allocation of state property to those who lost their homes in the floods and landslides.
All three laws, if adopted, will enable fast, efficient, and transparent assistance for tens of thousands of households affected by the unprecedented floods of the past month.
This law, among other things, introduces a self-contribution from employees to help those affected. According to this solution, all employees, except those who declare they will not participate, will give a portion of their salaries to help those in need. Budget beneficiaries and employees in public enterprises and all companies and institutions linked to the authorities will set aside a daily allowance for half a year, while others, employed in the private sector, will contribute 1% of their salary.
It is estimated that this self-contribution will secure an additional at least around six million marks each month, which will be significant funds to help repair the damage caused by the floods.
- I believe there is no person in Bosnia and Herzegovina who does not want to show solidarity with their affected fellow citizens. Also, it is very important that this is a form of aid that will be defined by law, which will eliminate any possibility of misuse of these funds - said Bajramović.
- The package of three laws to help those affected by the floods is the best possible solution that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has adopted in this situation - says Bajramović.
