Union of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry of Sarajevo Canton on Events at KCUS: Unacceptable Pressure on Doctors

The Union of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry of Sarajevo Canton has been informed about pressures on union members employed at the Orthopedics Clinic of the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, exerted by the management of that institution, regarding their publicly expressed stance on the change that occurred at the head of that organizational unit, the Union's reaction states, as reported by the Patria agency.

- Without delving into the reasons for the dismissal, nor into the (un)justifiability of the procedure of dismissing the clinic's head by the management of the largest healthcare institution in BiH, we consider it unacceptable to exert pressure on doctors regarding their publicly expressed word. Directors of healthcare institutions have the right and can choose their associates at their discretion and within legal frameworks. But they cannot limit or prohibit the right of employees to express their views on management decisions, and especially they must not be subjected to any kind of pressure because of this.

Like all free people, doctors also have the right to their own opinion and can express it at any time and on any occasion. Especially if it concerns the specific organization of doctors' work in a healthcare institution.

In fact, such interests should be represented on their behalf by the doctors' union, which in this case was not consulted, nor was it in any way involved in the current events in order to establish dialogue and prevent incidents that disrupt interpersonal relations and the work process in the institution, which benefits no one.

Stirring up public opinion only indicates a lack of dialogue and mutual respect between the management and the doctors' union in that institution, which should not happen.

The Union of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry of Sarajevo Canton will always advocate for the protection of its members and the dignity of the medical profession, which is practiced in accordance with legal norms, ethical codes, and principles.

We are not interested in personnel puzzles or decisions related to them, but we cannot remain silent when pressure is exerted on the freedom of expression of doctors of medicine and dentistry, which can indirectly affect our daily work dedicated to protecting the health, lives, and treatment of our patients.
