Unionists schedule press conference over new Labour Law

The Union of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina is organising an extraordinary press conference regarding the adoption of the Labour Law of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conference will be held at the Trade Union Hall in Sarajevo, on Saturday, 1 August 2015, starting at 11:00.

The House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Labour Law last night, after the same law was adopted a day earlier in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This SDA law was passed by a narrow majority following the support of the so-called small parties A-SDA, BPS, Our Party and SBiH. The law was also supported by the HDZ BiH party.

In contrast, the parties DF, SDP, SBB and HDZ 1990 voted against this law.

Opinions on the new Labour Law in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are divided; for some, it further threatens workers' rights, while for others, it is a chance for new jobs.

Workers accuse the Union of not sufficiently protecting their rights.

The new Labour Law in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was adopted as part of the reforms that Bosnia and Herzegovina must implement on its path to EU membership, NAP writes.
