Šiljegović at the conference of military ombudsmen

Parliamentary Military Commissioner of BiH Boško Šiljegović participated in Geneva in the work of the Sixth International Conference of Ombudsmen for the Armed Forces, which was thematically dedicated to the issue of the reputation and status of the armed forces in society, opportunities for improving cooperation between the armed forces and the ombudsman institution, as well as the role of social networks and media in presenting the situation in the armed forces and monitoring the activities of military ombudsmen, Patria reports.

During the Conference, hosted by the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), Šiljegović addressed the participants, emphasizing in his speech examples of positive practices in the work of the Office of the Parliamentary Military Commissioner of BiH.

Šiljegović also held several meetings on the sidelines of the Conference with ombudsmen dealing with human rights protection issues in the armed forces. During these meetings, experiences and information were exchanged about the work of the Parliamentary Military Commissioner of BiH and institutions dealing with this issue in the participating countries of the Conference.

The two-day international Conference of Military Ombudsmen, which concludes today, was opened by DCAF Director Dr. Theodor Winkler. By the end of the Conference, discussions will also cover the process of reintegrating soldiers into civil society after the completion of their military careers, as well as the activities of ombudsmen for the armed forces aimed at strengthening the reputation of the government institutions with which they cooperate, as well as the institutions they head.
