(Patria) - A regular session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH was supposed to be held in Sarajevo today.
There were a total of nine items on the proposed agenda, including the Proposal for Amendments to the Criminal Code of the FBiH and the Draft Law on Gas of the FBiH.
The session ended without practically even starting. Namely, the agenda was not adopted - it was rejected by the representatives of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) BiH.
In this way, they wanted to express their dissatisfaction because their coalition partners outvoted them at the previous extraordinary session.
Member of the FBiH Parliament Haris Silajdžić (SBiH) told the Patria News Agency (NAP) that the High Representative Christian Schmidt has an opportunity to finally resolve another blockade.
- On this day, exactly two years ago, Schmidt suspended the Constitution of the Federation of BiH for 24 hours - which was not a "technical move" but a historical precedent. This enabled HDZ to permanently cement control over the formation of government, regardless of the actual political will of the voters.
Today, we clearly see the results of that act: the 50 votes that were gathered then under the guise of "stability" are not even capable of ensuring the adoption of the agenda.
And if the federal government functions on the principle of "everything that HDZ says is allowed", then we have no functional democracy - but institutionalized blockade, humiliation of Parliament, and the majorization of the majority of citizens by the will of a party with only 13 percent of the votes - emphasizes Silajdžić.
If Schmidt's amendments were justified as a "de-blockade of the Federation," he asked - what then is this we are watching today - why is Schmidt silent now that his experiment has failed the reality test?
- It is absurd and hypocritical to accuse us - the opposition - of not adopting the agenda, when that right and responsibility lies with the parliamentary majority that the Trojka forms with HDZ. We do not dictate the pace of the Parliament's work, but we will not remain silent about the chaos that has reigned for a year under the guise of false stability.
It is time to call things by their real name - the Federation is a hostage of a political agreement that has not yielded results, and the citizens are hostages of double standards and open political bargaining - added Silajdžić.
