Sidran on the voting of Čović and HDZ: How will a traitor to the homeland vote but treacherously

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Academician Abdulah Sidran today commented on the voting of Dragan Čović and HDZ BiH in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly for the conclusions of the Serb Club calling for the annulment of amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH which prohibit the denial of genocide, war crimes and the glorification of war criminals. 

"I think he acted correctly. How will an executioner vote but like an executioner, how will a butcher vote but like a butcher, how will a traitor to his homeland vote but treacherously... We talk about consequences, and I try to show that all our political reality is rolling in the mud of consequences while no one dares, has the strength or does not dare to talk about the essences – the causes. The future will write what we do not dare today – that since Dayton we have been living in a vacuum of dubious legality," Sidran said for N1. 

Sidran also commented on the current situation in BiH. 

"I think we lost that problem, that matter from our hands long ago. We long ago accepted what is unacceptable. We never had elections in which someone could consider themselves an ethnic, national leader. The first time we swallowed the nonsense, the meetings in cafes, that battle was lost. This situation that exists today and has lasted since 1990 is the result of national movements. None of these major parties is political, but national. Our leaders are 'dealers' i.e. they deal in ugly feelings," said the academician. 

Fifteen years ago you wrote that a war is ongoing for the interpretation of the unfinished wars of 1992-1996, and that whoever's interpretation wins will subsequently become the war victor and write history as they please, according to their needs. Who is currently leading?

I think that we, as the Bosniak or Bosnian, homeland, patriotic side, have already lost that war. By everything that is happening to us, by the way our friends are abandoning us... our delusions are costing us. We lost the war for interpretation, no one abroad any longer distinguishes the victim from the aggressor. Who mentions that our 'partners' were convicted of genocide and tell us to reach an agreement, and they will accept it. That is sheer hypocrisy. A centrifugal and a centripetal force cannot agree. There is my sentence given to an Italian journalist when asked what is the purpose of the international community's presence in BiH, which increasingly suits this situation. I said that the purpose of the international community's presence is to give the disappearance of Bosnia and Herzegovina an appearance of inevitability. Tomorrow, like Pontius Pilate washing his hands, the international community will say they did everything they could, but that the disintegration was inevitable.

And let me add, for the last 10 years, the biggest culprit is our opposition.

What could the opposition do when representatives of the international community invite national leaders to dinners, not them?

I was pleased by how the opposition representatives list which points they will never accept. They listed several things and that is good. The question is how much we can trust an opposition that has betrayed us several times. If we allowed, with the votes of the opposition, that HDZ again has the mayor of Mostar – the question is the degree of credibility of what the opposition forces are, or what this 'Bosnia and Herzegovina Bloc' is called.
