Sixth protest walk: Death of Dženan Memić still shrouded in mystery

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Starting at 12:00 from SCC, the sixth protest walk organized by the family of the murdered young man Dženan Memić will take place, on the second anniversary of the incident in Velika aleja when the young man sustained injuries under still unexplained circumstances, after which he died on February 15 at KCUS. 

The protest walk will start at 12:00 from SCC, along the streets of Hiseta, Obala Kulina bana, Radićeva and Maršala Tita. Participants of the protest walk will stay on Radićeva street, i.e. in front of the building of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, from 12:30 to 13:30. The family will demand the dismissal of the chief cantonal prosecutor Dalida Burzić, as well as all prosecutors who worked on this case. Numerous legal experts believe that the Bosnian judiciary does not know of a traffic accident case handled by nine prosecutors. 

In the request sent to the Ministry of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton, the father of the murdered young man, Muriz Memić, stated that he is forced to organize another protest walk due to dissatisfaction with the work of the judicial and police structures of the Sarajevo Canton in the case of his son's murder. 

Dženan Memić was in the company of his girlfriend Alisa Mutap on the night of February 8, 2016. Although Mutap is the only witness from that night, she appeared only once at the trial of Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, who are being tried for the serious criminal offense against public traffic safety and for the criminal offense of failing to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident and the criminal offense of obstructing evidence and causing a traffic accident.

Numerous experts who testified gave conflicting statements about how the young man sustained his injuries. It was established that Memić had a head injury that could have been caused by a blunt object, and not by a T4 van as claimed by the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office.

Conflicting statements from police officers who first arrived at the scene also create confusion about the exact sequence of events, as well as about Dženan's position, who moved him and why, and when the photograph published during the trial was taken. 

The Memić family and their lawyer Ifet Feraget previously stated that this is the biggest case of corruption in the Bosnian judiciary, and that they will seek the truth all the way to the court in Strasbourg.
