Today marks the 16th anniversary of the assassination of the Deputy Minister of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs Jozo Leutar, writes the Patria News Agency.
The assassination of Jozo Leutar was carried out on March 16, 1999, at seven fifty AM in the Sarajevo settlement of Ciglane. An explosive device was placed under his official car. Leutar died 12 days later, on March 28, at the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo.
The initial investigation identified Leutar's driver, Željko Ćosić, as the main organizer, but he, along with other suspects, was definitively acquitted of all charges during court proceedings that lasted more than two and a half years.
After that, there were no further developments in the investigation.
The investigation into the murder of Jozo Leutar has never been properly concluded, and no one has yet been convicted for the murder, for which it has not yet been determined whether it was politically motivated or an act commissioned by criminal groups.
The investigation was first led by the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo, and then taken over by the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
