Senator Jeanne Shaheen: Trump Administration Should Reinstate Sanctions on Dodik

(Patria) - US Senator and member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Jeanne Shaheen commented after the visit of SNSD President Milorad Dodik to Washington and called for the reintroduction of sanctions.

"The Trump administration should be ashamed of its decision last October to remove Republika Srpska leader Milorad Dodik from the US sanctions list. Mr. Dodik is using secessionist rhetoric and undermining the integrity of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which is in direct contradiction to the administration's reasoning for removing Dodik and his associates from the sanctions list at the end of last year," Shaheen wrote.

She further stated that Dodik's visit to Washington clearly showed that he is not interested in putting the interests of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead of his political interests.

"The Trump administration should urgently reintroduce sanctions on Mr. Dodik, in accordance with the mandatory sanctions I secured in the latest National Defense Authorization Act," Shaheen said.

During his visit to Washington, Milorad Dodik attended the Prayer Breakfast and, together with Željka Cvijanović and Ana Trišić Babić, held several meetings with leading members of the current US administration.
