UNSA Senate to Record Shortcomings and Request Amendments to the Law on Higher Education

Today, the 8th extraordinary session of the Senate of the University of Sarajevo was held with two items on the agenda: Implementation of the Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo Canton ("Official Gazette of Sarajevo Canton", br. 33/17) and Amendments to the Academic Calendar of the University of Sarajevo for the academic year 2016/2017, reports Patria agency.

The Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo Canton ("Official Gazette of Sarajevo Canton", br. 33/17) entered into force on September 1, 2017. The University of Sarajevo has begun implementing the Law on Higher Education, and at the session held, the Senate reviewed the provisions of the Law on Higher Education with deadlines for the preparation of bylaws and implementing acts.

Members of the Senate were informed that the Government of Sarajevo Canton formed a Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the Law on Higher Education on August 17, 2017, which includes representatives of the University of Sarajevo, among others.

It was concluded that the Senate of the University of Sarajevo will record all shortcomings or parts of the Law that are unexecutable within the foreseen deadlines and, through its representatives in the Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the Law on Higher Education, delegate proposals for improvement or amendments to the Law on an urgent procedure. 

Implementing Article 64 (6) of the Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo Canton and Article 56 of the Statute of the University of Sarajevo, the Senate adopted a Decision at the session to approve amendments and additions to the Academic Calendar of the University of Sarajevo for the academic year 2016/2017 with the Calendar of Activities for the Organization and Realization of Study Programs at the University of Sarajevo in the academic year 2016/2017.

This decision enables organizational units to organize a second September examination period, in accordance with spatial and human resources, no later than October 5, 2017.
