Semezdin Mehmedinović Wins Mirko Kovač Award for Best Novel

ROVINJ, (Patria) - Bosnian writer Semezdin Mehmedinović has won the Mirko Kovač Award for the best novel. Mehmedinović received the award for the novel “Me’med, crvena bandana i pahuljica” published by Fraktura from Zaprešić. 

The award was presented at the fifth Days of Mirko Kovač in Rovinj.

This is the second major award for one of the best Bosnian writers. We remind you that Mehmedinović received the Meša Selimović Award for the same novel seven days ago in Tuzla.

The book “Pušači crvenog bana” by Svetislav Basara published by Laguna from Belgrade was declared the best collection of essays. For the best work by a young author, the Mirko Kovač Award went to the novel “Proljeće se na put sprema” by Bojan Krivokapić published by Red box from Belgrade.

For the best screenplay based on a filmed movie, “Kratki izlet” by Igor Bezinović and Ante Zlatko Stolica produced by Studio Pangolin from Zagreb was awarded.

The jury consisted of Vlaho Bogišić, Predrag Antonijević, Enver Kazaz, Borka Pavićević and Dragan Radulović, and the Mirko Kovač Award includes a monetary prize for each category in the amount of 5,000 euros and a charter.

Previous winners of the Mirko Kovač Award in the category for the best work by a young author were Dragan Markovina for the book “Između crvenog i crnog”, Vladimir Tabašević for the novel “Tiho teče Misisipi” and Hana Jušić for the screenplay “Ne gledaj mi u pjat”.

Previous awards for the best book of essays were won by Svetlana Slapšak for “Leteći pilav”, Ivan Lovrenović for “Isusa u Ahmićima”, and Ivan Čolović for “Smrt na Kosovu polju. Istorija kosovskog mita”.

For the best screenplay, previous winners were Vuk Ršumović for the work “Ničije dete”, Ivona Juka for the text “Ti mene nosiš”, and Mirjana Karanović, Stevan Filipović and Darko Lungulov for “Dobru ženu”.

For the best novel, winners were Oto Horvat for the book “Sabo je stao”, “Doba mjedi” by Slobodan Šnajder and “Kad sam bio hodža” by Damir Ovčina.

The Days of Mirko Kovač are organized by the Mirko Kovač Association in cooperation with the Rovinj Open Public University, and the project director is publisher Seid Serdarević, founder of the publishing house Fraktura.
