Traffic lights still a problem: East Sarajevo authorities indifferent to kilometer-long queues

The Bjelašnica and Igman mountains are crowded daily with citizens escaping to the Olympic beauties to breathe fresh air for a moment and flee the city pollution, writes the Patria news agency.

However, getting to the Sarajevo mountains is becoming increasingly difficult, as traffic jams in East Sarajevo are inevitable during the peak of the winter season, and the reason for this is the traffic lights. And, the situation is getting worse year after year.

Because of this, citizens have reacted on social networks, and tourists visiting Sarajevo who ski on Bjelašnica or Igman are dissatisfied with the kilometer-long queues and the wasted time on the road. When returning from Igman and Bjelašnica, you will always get stuck in a kilometer-long queue that can be up to 5 km long.

The reason is very simple - the green light at the traffic light in East Sarajevo for those going towards Sarajevo lasts only 25 seconds. Then, for the next 75 seconds, it is green for those going from the direction of Lukavica towards Foča.

However, only a few cars pass from that direction.

Although the authorities in East Sarajevo have not commented this year either, citizens suspect that one of the reasons for this move is to redirect some of the skier-tourists towards Jahorina.
