Selimović: Pećanac and Ćosić are preventing me from returning to the Sarajevo Canton MUP

For nine months now, the former director of the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies, who resigned from that position after the February protests, Himzo Selimović, has been jobless, without any income, with a final court ruling in his pocket ordering the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) to reinstate him as chief inspector, reports the Patria News Agency.

However, the current minister Nermin Pećanac and commissioner Vahid Ćosić are not "inclined" to return Selimović to his job, even though the court has ordered it. They announced they would seek instructions on how to implement the court decision!?

- Even without the court and the nine-month ordeal I have gone through, by law I am entitled to a job with the rank of chief inspector. From 2002 to 2010, I was the police commissioner, a position for which the law established the rank of general inspector. When I moved to the position of director of the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies in March 2010, I received a decision from the Sarajevo Canton MUP stating that my employment rights and obligations would be suspended while I was in the Directorate, and that I would return to the MUP afterwards and be assigned the rank of chief inspector, Himzo Selimović explains to Patria.

The Sarajevo Municipal Court issued a security measure on November 13, prohibiting the MUP from enforcing its decisions, by which Selimović was assigned the rank of senior inspector and ordered to be assigned to a position designated for a chief inspector until the conclusion of the civil proceedings, which could last several years.

The Sarajevo Canton MUP, namely Pećanac and Ćosić, did not comply with the court's measure, and on December 9, the Municipal Court issued a Conclusion on Enforcement, ordering them to provide proof to the Court within three days that they had acted according to their conclusion.

Meanwhile, on December 15, the Sarajevo Cantonal Court rejected the appeal of the Sarajevo Canton MUP regarding the return and assignment of Selimović to the rank of chief inspector, and this decision is final until the conclusion of the civil proceedings, and no further appeal can be filed against it.

- It is concerning that the heads of law enforcement agencies, the Sarajevo Canton MUP, are commenting on and questioning court decisions. I will continue to fight for what is prescribed by law, although it is clear that what is being done to me has nothing to do with law and justice, but with politics. Pećanac and Ćosić are preventing me from returning to work - says Selimović.
