Seven months after the incident in Bratunac: “Weapons collector” Srđan Vrzić still at large

The case from May 2014, when a cemetery in Bratunac was desecrated before the collective burial of 34 civilian Bosniak victims of the last Serbian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, has not yet been concluded, nor has the pensioner Srđan Vrzić been fully prosecuted. Two days after the funeral, a large quantity of weapons was found near the cemetery in his possession, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

The day before the burial of the killed Bosniaks, hooligans tore down Bosniak religious tombstones and made crosses out of them. Two days after this incident, inspectors from the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska found an illegal weapons cache on the roof of the private house of Srđan Vrzić, located immediately next to the Veljaci martyrs' cemetery, where on May 12, in the presence of about 5,000 people, a collective funeral prayer was held for 34 civilian victims of the crime in Bratunac.

The discovered weapons and ammunition caused fear among Bosniaks.

All those involved in the cemetery desecration incident, as well as Srđan Vrzić, were released after giving statements.

Edin Ikanović, one of the coordinators of the activities of the coalition "Prvi mart" in Bratunac, told the Bosnian news agency Patria that the police information about the discovered weapons in Bratunac was intended only to frighten Bosniak returnees.

- After that, not a single word about that case – said Ikanović.

- Everything was hushed up, as if nothing had happened – he added.

During the last Serbian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, more than 21,000 Bosniaks were expelled from Bratunac, and about 3,500 of them were killed.

- There are no major tensions now, except when it comes time to commemorate the sites of suffering and funerals – says Ikanović.

But, he adds, local authorities systematically discriminate against Bosniak returnees at every step, from employment and education to snow removal, writes Patria.
