Sebija Izetbegović wanted to manage the Rectorate Election Commission

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At today's session of the Senate of the University of Sarajevo, the Commission for conducting the procedure for electing the Rector of the University of Sarajevo for the mandate period 2020-2024 was elected. The proposal of the University of Sarajevo, consisting of: Prof. Dr. Hajrija Sijerčić-Čolić, president, and members Prof. Dr. Dubravka Pozderac, Prof. Dr. Muhamed Ajanović, Prof. Dr. Izet Bijelonja, and Prof. Dr. Naris Pojskić, was supported by the majority of votes.

However, at today's session, which was held electronically, a somewhat surprising situation occurred when the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo, Semra Čavaljuga, who has been reported to the KS Prosecutor's Office for several criminal offenses and whose status as Dean is very questionable due to a previous suspension and dismissal, proposed Sebija Izetbegović, Director of the Clinical Center UNSA, for the president of the Commission. However, this proposal was not even considered, given that the majority supported the University's proposal. Although any dean could have made a proposal, only Čavaljuga did so today.

On Tuesday, June 2, the call for applications for the election of the Rector of the University of Sarajevo will be published, and it will be open for 15 days. The secret ballot at the Senate session will be held on June 30.

The only candidate for rector known so far is the current rector, Rifat Škrijelj, which he confirmed in an interview with Patria. Although it was previously speculated that Nihad Fejzić, former dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, would be one of the candidates, after he participated in a "corona party" in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, that intention was abandoned. Another name mentioned is Professor Šaćir Filandra.
