Sebija Izetbegović deliberately undermines KCUS: She will not stop with the dismissal of Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović

What the director of KCUS, Sebija Izetbegović, on Monday in an official response to the Patria agency called a „rumour“ has in practice proven to be a premeditated plan that was secretly being implemented. Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, a top expert in the field of orthopedics, has been dismissed from the head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology.

It was expected that his dismissal would pass quietly, as was the case with more than 40 doctors who were dismissed or driven out of the largest hospital in BiH. Director Izetbegović does not rest even after the number of about ten professors who have left KCUS. Their loss is irreplaceable.

Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović learned about his dismissal from the media. Colleagues from this Clinic have publicly expressed support and signed a document opposing the new organization of the Clinic approved by the KCUS Management Board. It is clear that this was done with the aim of dismissing Dr. Gavrankapetanović. Numerous doctors who were offered this position refused to take over the function.

One of the most important clinics of KCUS has been weakened by the dismissal of its head through this move by Director Izetbegović and her subordinate Management Board (the President of the Management Board is Jasmin Kapetanović, a family friend of Izetbegović and owner of the Dina pharmacies, to which patients from KCUS are sent to buy medicines and other necessary medical supplies, for which money is refunded from the ZZO KS). Numerous initiated international projects are also being called into question. In all of this, KCUS will suffer long-term damage.

Dr. Gavrankapetanović stated in an interview with N1 that „everything has been going on for the last two years“.

- For us surgeons, leadership positions are unimportant, however, I personally am bothered by the attempt at humiliation for no reason. Do not touch our pride and dignity - said the respected expert.

Among the colleagues who have expressed support and opposed this humiliating manner of dismissal is Dr. Mirza Biščević. He also disagrees with the new organization of the Clinic, which will affect patients as well.

- Before the war, there were three times more orthopedists in Sarajevo than now. The average age of us orthopedists is 52 years, we are not young, but we are very busy, employed, and through our additional engagement and effort, we compensate for all shortcomings, we do not raise dust, we solve every problem. We do not like to appear in public, especially not with things that are not affirmative, and we will organize ourselves very well in the best possible way when it comes to medical matters, and what we ask for the least is that, if we are not helped, we are not hindered - said Dr. Biščević for N1.

Dr. Senad Maksić is also a signatory of the letter of support, and regarding the departure of staff from KCUS, he says:

- The damage is certainly great for the Clinical Center, the Canton, the state, but the departure of doctors and medical staff is a problem that will have to be taken most seriously. If this problem is not approached in the right way, we may face consequences that could be very, very severe.
