Sebastian Kurz convincing winner of parliamentary elections

(Patria) – Austrian leader Sebastian Kurz achieved an expected victory in the early parliamentary elections in Austria.

Given the achieved result of 37.1%, the majority needed to form a government was not reached, leaving the youngest chancellor in Europe with the decision of whom his conservative People's Party will enter into a coalition with.

We remind you that Kurz's coalition with the right-wing Freedom Party collapsed in June due to a scandal involving its leader Heinz-Christian Strache.

The Social Democrats are immediately behind the People's Party with 22.6%, the right-wing Freedom Party won 16.7%, the Greens 13.0%, and the liberal party Neos 7.8% of the votes. Final results will be announced on Monday.

Meanwhile, the country was led by a caretaker government because the 33-year-old Chancellor Kurz lost a vote of no confidence in June due to a scandal involving his coalition partner Strache.

Kurz announced that if he wins, he will hold talks with all parties. It is speculated that his shortlist is again the Freedom Party or the Greens and the liberal Neos.
