SDSM accepts Zaev's resignation, new party president to be elected on December 12

(Patria) - The Executive and Central Committee of SDSM late last night accepted the resignation of the party's president, Zoran Zaev.

Party spokesperson Bogdanka Kuzeska stated that the SDSM Central Committee confirmed the resignation of President Zaev.

"SDSM accepted Zaev's resignation, elections for a new party president on December 12. From today, a seven-day deadline begins for candidates for the new president who meet the conditions according to the party's Statute," Kuzeska said.

All SDSM members who are actively registered online will have the opportunity to vote. Active registration will last seven days. After the election of the president, the election of the new party leadership follows.

The most likely candidate, according to North Macedonian media, for the future president of SDSM is the current Deputy Minister of Finance, Dimitar Kovačevski.

Kuzeska did not confirm that Zaev proposed Kovačevski as his successor, but several media outlets learned this information from sources at the top of the party.

Zaev informed that the parliamentary majority is stable and currently has 61 deputies.

It was announced that the new president of SDSM will be the mandate holder for the formation of a new government, in which, according to last night's decision of the Central Committee, there is room for the party Alternativa of Afrim Gashi.

Prime Minister of North Macedonia and leader of SDSM Zoran Zaev submitted his resignation on October 31 from both positions after the debacle of his party in the local elections.
