SDP calls on Sead Jakupović to resign, internal party process also initiated

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina strongly condemned the SNSD's insulting of victims of the most serious war crimes committed in Prijedor and its surroundings in 1992, which occurred in the Prijedor City Assembly.

- The white ribbons that Bosniaks and Croats of Prijedor were forced to wear in 1992 are a judicially and historically established fact and will remain an eternal shame for all who participated in that criminal undertaking. No one has the right to deny the crime and forbid the families of victims from commemorating their suffering.

The insults directed by SNSD councilors are beneath any level. It is obvious that this party has nothing to offer citizens except nationalist incitement of hatred towards Bosniak and Croat returnees in Prijedor.

The truth about the crimes in this city has long been known, and no empty nationalist rhetoric will change the fact that one of the greatest crimes against Bosniaks and Croats in the past war was committed in Prijedor.

Relativization of crimes is not a way of progress and reconciliation. We call on representatives of political parties to in no way contribute to creating an unstable political situation in Prijedor or anywhere else in BiH from their seats in the assembly. It is high time to accept the truth and for all of us in BiH to turn together towards building a better future for all citizens.

For the SDP BiH, the lack of an adequate reaction from the Chairman of the Prijedor City Assembly, Sead Jakupović, is unacceptable, especially given that he himself was a victim of crime and a prisoner of the Omarska and Manjača camps.

Due to all the above, the SDP BiH publicly calls on Sead Jakupović to immediately submit an irrevocable resignation from the position of Chairman of the Prijedor City Assembly. The SDP BiH will, due to actions contrary to our fundamental commitments, conduct an appropriate internal party procedure - it was stated by the SDP.
