SDP to decide on candidate today, SDA on Sunday, and SBB next weekend

The Social Democratic Party of BiH is expected to decide on its candidate for the BiH Presidency today, while the Party of Democratic Action will do so on Sunday, and SBB - Fahrudin Radončić next weekend, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP). Independent candidates have announced their candidacies earlier, the most serious among them being Dr. Mustafa Cerić.

Damir Mašić, a member of the SDP presidency, confirmed for Patria that the party's presidency session will be held today.

As we reported earlier, it is expected that Denis Bećirović will receive support for his candidacy at this session, as a candidate for the Bosniak member of the Presidency. This would be the first time in eight years that the SDP nominates a Bosniak member of the presidency, after nominating Željko Komšić as the Croat member of the Presidency in the last two election processes.

At the same time, SDA Presidency member Safet Softić confirmed for NAP that the party's highest leadership will hold a session on Sunday. It is not excluded that a decision on whom the SDA will nominate will be made then.

The current Deputy President of the SDA, Bakir Izetbegović, has previously stated that he expects to be nominated. Softić says he has not seen the session's agenda either, but believes that the issue of the candidate for the Presidency could be resolved then.

Spokesperson for the Alliance for a Better Future – Fahrudin Radončić, Omer Čevra, told the Patria agency that the party will make its decision next weekend, on July 12 and 13, when the SBB Presidency session will be held. The Central Election Commission's deadline for submitting all candidate lists expires on Monday, July 14, reports NAP.
