SDP, Our Party, Party for BiH: Investigative bodies to shed light on the attack on Irfan Čengić as soon as possible

(Patria) - The Cantonal Council of the Party for BiH Sarajevo strongly condemns the attack on the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Irfan Čengić. The use of explosive devices in confrontations with politicians in the Sarajevo Canton is escalating and, as we stated in a press release just a few days ago, in Sarajevo they no longer shoot, now they use spoon bombs.

"The Prime Minister (M)Uk can now say he is at the helm of the metropolis, only now the Stari Grad Municipality is becoming part of the Rio de Janeiro favela. The security situation in the Sarajevo Canton has been dramatically deteriorated and has culminated in recent months, but that was not a sign to all those who in every way obstructed the holding of the session of the Cantonal Assembly on the security situation. The spectacle staged on March 29, 2024, in the Cantonal Assembly is the best indicator that even then this situation was not taken seriously, but rather every effort was made to ignore it with meaningless introductory statements and to convince the entire public that the security situation in the Canton was good.

Now, in just a few days, we have the use of explosive devices, and the question is how to proceed. Has everything gotten out of control, and is everything coming to a head, after the authorities bombarded us with their stance that security in the Canton has never been better.

The Party for BiH publicly demands that the competent police bodies and prosecutor's offices finally launch urgent activities to uncover all politicians registered in the SKY application, because this will show who is settling scores with whom in the Canton and whether politics is behind the bombers. Certain politics have entered the sphere of the criminal Sarajevo milieu, and the public must finally find out who financed whom and who is whose sponsor, but also which political parties have their fingers in crime and corruption. The fish always stinks from the head," stated the Party for BiH.

The Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina strongly condemned this morning's bomb attack on the house of the Mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, Irfan Čengić.

"Such attacks are an attempt to stop the positive processes in this municipality, which the mayor initiated in the past few months, all in the interest of the citizens of this municipality. In this, as in many other cases, the competent institutions must show strength and identify the perpetrators, so that such cases do not happen again," stated the SDP.

They emphasize that criminal groups must not manage processes in this municipality, as was the case in the earlier period of running this municipality.

"SDP BiH will do everything through the system's institutions to put a stop to such acts as soon as possible, and we expect that other parties will join initiatives to tighten penalties for such acts. We send words of support to the family of Irfan Čengić, hoping that the competent police and prosecutorial institutions will urgently identify and most severely punish the perpetrator of this heinous attack," concluded the SDP.

We remind you that on Monday in the early morning hours, an unknown person threw an explosive device at the house of the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Irfan Čengić.

Regarding the bomb thrown at the house of Irfan Čengić, the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Our Party also reacted.

"We expect the investigative bodies to shed light on the case of the attack on Irfan Čengić as soon as possible. Anyone who is subjected to criminal pressure has our full support. Sarajevo is a city where only citizens can judge politicians at elections, that will never be criminals. We believe that this attack will not discourage Mayor Čengić in his work."
