SDP: Our two mandates will be exclusively for the good and progress of Montenegro

(Patria) - The Presidency of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Montenegro held a session yesterday, where it was stated that the party's election results in the parliamentary elections were below expectations.

The SDP won two mandates in the parliamentary elections held on Sunday. They state that their mandates will be exclusively for the good and progress of Montenegro, its vital national interests, but also against lawlessness, injustice, and the plundering of national property, reports vijesti.me.

"The Presidency of the SDP, at its session held in an expanded composition, expresses gratitude to all citizens who voted for the list 'SDP – Strong Montenegro' and thereby supported the idea of political change based on a purely civic, European, and state-building concept of the country's organization. The SDP congratulates the citizens who, with a high turnout in the elections, ensured a stronger legitimacy of the electoral process, which obliges all electoral participants to respect the will of the citizens and, in that regard, contribute to the stability of Montenegro in the period ahead," the party's statement reads.

The SDP Presidency assessed that the party's election result was below expectations, but also that each of the nearly 13,000 votes given to the SDP is an expression of open and sincere support for our policy.

"Our 2 mandates are the result of the honorable and sincere efforts of each of our members and sympathizers; they are not the product of any pressure, blackmail, or dishonest actions, and therefore we do not allow anyone to claim the SDP's election result. The current government won 38 mandates in the elections and not a single one more, and the SDP's mandates will, as always in the past thirty years of our political existence, be exclusively for the good and progress of Montenegro, its vital national interests, but also against lawlessness, injustice, and the plundering of national property. Let this be clear to all actors on the political scene, because the SDP, unlike many others, has always chosen its political path independently, and so it will be in the future, of course, guided exclusively by the goals of a civic, European, anti-fascist, and free Montenegro," the party announced.

The SDP Presidency strongly condemns the numerous incidents, national-chauvinistic messages and expressions of hatred, attacks on members of numerically smaller nations in Montenegro, as well as anti-state iconography that is an integral element of post-election manifestations and political gatherings, and calls on the competent authorities to promptly prosecute such actions and sanction those responsible.

"The SDP Presidency once again expresses its full support for the idea of political change that will preserve the achieved results in important areas of state policy, uncompromisingly advocating for Montenegro as a civic and secular community based on the noblest values of a civilized, democratic, and anti-fascist Europe," the statement concluded.
