(Patria) - The Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina considers the statements of the Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, about how anti-fascist gatherings in Mostar glorify criminal ideologies to be extremely dangerous and, at the very least, insolent.
"Such deliberately targeted statements certainly do not contribute to calming the situation in Mostar, and the mayor's equating of everyone, under the guise of non-binding European Union declarations, only adds fuel to the fire in a city that has not yet healed its wounds from the past war.
To avoid giving a history lesson confirmed by the entire world, or 'povijesti', so as not to offend the mayor, Saturday marked the Day of the Liberation of Mostar, from those very same people whom the mayor is trying to place on an equal footing with glorious anti-fascists.
It was commemorated by the same people whose descendants also fought against fascism in this war, disguised in the hollow story of a national awakening. They commemorated it at the execution site of their anti-fascist ancestors, which the mayor and his like-minded associates would most gladly raze to the ground.
We will remind the mayor that on Saturday, no symbols of a regime were waved, but rather those of the former state of the SFRY, in which the mayor himself was born. The same state that was internationally recognized and founded on anti-fascist foundations. Unlike the NDH, which was and remains a puppet state of fascist leaders, born from the mass killing and expulsion of all dissenters, most notably anti-fascists.
This, as the mayor insidiously made a connection in his nationalist statement to children, who are truly not to blame for having such a mayor, proves the powerlessness to obscure the bright anti-fascist moments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the former state. Because we are sure that even children know who the anti-fascists were and who the servants of the fascists were.
Finally, so that it is not only the mayor trying to cover up the traces of anti-fascism in Mostar, his long-time allies from the SDA are doing the same, who were recently bothered by a theatre play that would glorify anti-fascists, and they tried to ban it under the ridiculous justification that it offends believers and fighters of the Army of BiH.
As for the SDP BiH, we will never give up on Mostar being a city tailored to all its citizens, where all those who contributed to Mostar being such a city will be celebrated, regardless of whether it concerns the recent or distant past," the SDP BiH stated.
