SDA: The Prosecutor's Office must investigate the decision of the FBiH Government to favour private banks with citizens' money

(Patria) - SDA demands that the competent prosecutor's offices urgently launch an investigation and examine all details regarding the decision of the FBiH Government to favour private banks and the damage caused to the budget of the Federation of BiH.

"The fact that the Government of the Federation of BiH sold more than 100 million KM of receivables based on long-term loans extended to Elektroprivreda BiH, Elektroprivreda HZ HB, Ceste FBiH and the Sarajevo Canton to private banks Bosna Bank International d.d, Union banka d.d. Sarajevo and Unicredit bank d.d. Mostar at a discount of over 20 percent, points to two selfish motives.

The first is plugging budget holes, whereby the leaders of the FBiH Government behave as irresponsible heirs, selling off family property below cost in order to obtain money in any way possible.

The second motive – which the prosecutor's office would have to examine especially given the total amount of funds and the amounts the banks will earn – justifiably raises suspicion that this is corruption.

Whichever motive is in question, the decision to sell receivables in the amount exceeding 100 million KM, while enabling private commercial banks to earn more than 20 percent, is clearly detrimental to the budget of the Federation of BiH, which is also a criminal offence," the SDA stated.
