SDA: Nikšić's pre-election borrowing will cost citizens two billion KM

(Patria) - The borrowing of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the London Stock Exchange for 800 million euros is a desperate pre-election move by which the current government is pushing the citizens of the FBiH into debt slavery, announced the SDA.

"Future governments and citizens of the FBiH will have to repay two billion KM in the coming years for this borrowing alone, through principal and interest, with the money not being invested in development projects, energy, infrastructure, or job creation, but primarily for saving the ruling parties in an election year.

It is particularly cynical that the FBiH Government is trying to present this borrowing as a positive move, insulting the intelligence of citizens by claiming that the Federation has 'successfully borrowed,' as if leaving two billion convertible marks of debt to future generations is a reason for praise, rather than a serious alarm.

This is a classic pre-election borrowing by which Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić is trying to maintain an illusion of stability and avoid the political end of his mandate as seen in 2014, which was remembered for mass protests, economic and social chaos.

That this is an irresponsible and dangerous policy is warned not only by the expert public and the opposition, but also by one of the world's most influential credit rating agencies, Standard & Poor's, which warned of the possibility that future governments during 2027 and 2028 will not be able to consolidate the budget. In other words, international financial experts warn that the consequences of the current government's policy could jeopardize the financial stability of the FBiH and burden public finances as soon as the current leadership leaves power," the SDA statement said.
