SDA: It is not possible to go back and unilaterally repeal state laws

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Dayton Peace Agreement, initialed exactly 26 years ago, as the late Alija Izetbegović stated at the time, did not bring a just peace, but in the world as it was then, a better agreement could not have been reached, the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) announced today.

The statement states that the most important legacy of the Dayton Agreement is that it preserved the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stipulating that the Republic of BiH, as an internationally recognized state, continues to exist with a modified internal structure.

It is added that the Dayton Constitution brought a complicated and insufficiently functional decision-making system, with the possibility of various blockades, but one of the key provisions is the one contained in Article III/5, Annex IV, which is also the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and which relates to additional state competencies.

- This article states, among other things, that "Bosnia and Herzegovina shall assume competencies in those areas 'which are necessary for the preservation of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and international subjectivity of Bosnia and Herzegovina', and that 'additional institutions may be established as needed to carry out these competencies' - the SDA stated.

They note that based on these provisions and in accordance with them, a whole series of state institutions have been established, such as the Armed Forces, the Intelligence-Security Agency, the Indirect Taxation Authority, SIPA, etc., thanks to which the state has become more functional.

The statement states that on the 26th anniversary of the initialing of the Dayton Agreement, the key messages are that it is necessary to continue strengthening the stability and functionality of the state.

- It is not possible to go back and unilaterally repeal state laws passed in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH with the consent of both entities. Unilateral moves, announced by the authorities of the RS entity led by SNSD, represent a violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and are a threat to stability and peace - the SDA emphasized.

They state that BiH entities are not anyone's ethnic enclaves, and it is necessary to remove discrimination in them and ensure equality for all peoples and citizens.

- The international community, in its civilian and military aspects, must be present in BiH until the possibilities for boycotts and blockades are removed from its Constitution and until the conditions for our country's membership in the EU and NATO are met - the SDA statement reads.
